2019 GMC Sierra Revealed: Diesel Power and a Carbon-Fiber Bed

On the heels of the launch of the all-new 2019 Chevrolet Silverado, General Motors is shifting the focus onto its other full-size pickup, the GMC Sierra, which also is redesigned for the 2019 model year. Like the new Silverado, the Sierra is bigger, lighter, restyled, and offers a new turbo-diesel V-6. But it also has something neither the Silverado nor any other pickup truck has: an available bed partly constructed out of carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic.
Trick in a Box

The Sierra will offer GM’s first ever rear cargo box with integrated carbon fiber. Called the CarbonPro, it replaces the steel inner panels and floor with a carbon-fiber composite that GMC says better protects against dents, scratches, and corrosion. The CarbonPro also will be 62 pounds lighter than the standard steel box, although GMC did not release any information on payload capacity. The CarbonPro option won’t be available at launch but will roll out at some point during the model year.
